Bella Vista Equine was founded in early 2005 by Dr. Elizabeth F. Martinsen. With 15 years of clinical experience in addition to various academic appointments, Dr. Martinsen decided to go out on her own and to share her knowledge and to practice her love of equine reproduction. She is a specialist in the field of animal reproduction and is Board Certified by the American College of Theriogenologists (Reproduction).

Since our inception our goal has been to provide high-quality, reasonably priced, equine reproductive services. We know that our success depends on our relationship with our clients and hence we seek to listen, to communicate and to educate them in order to continuously improve our client relationships and their breeding programs.

Facilities

Our clinic is located in Central Ohio, approximately one hour northeast of Columbus, the state capital and home to the United States top three ranked veterinary institutions, The Ohio State University. Our grounds represent a little more than thirty acres with more space leased for a sizeable recipient herd. Modern buildings, oversize stalls, safe and easy maneuverability are all considerations that the experienced horse person has come to expect. We value safety and concern for the individual horse through individual turnouts. Special procedures are performed in our specially designed laboratory.

Biography

Elizabeth Martinsen received her DVM degree in 1989 from Universidade Federal Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After two years in private practice in Brazil she pursued a Masters Degree in equine reproduction at Texas A&M University, College Station (1993). During the summer of 1997 Dr. Martinsen completed a 3-year residency program at The Ohio State University where she received advanced training in animal reproduction as well as serving as a clinical instructor. While at Ohio State Dr. Martinsen became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenology. From the beginning of 1998 to late 1999 Dr. Martinsen worked in private practice for Specifically Equine Veterinary Services in Buellton, California. Until January of 2005 Dr. Martinsen was affiliated with Firethorn Equine Services, Lancaster, Ohio. She currently practices out of her own clinic, Bella Vista Equine and serves as adjunct professor in reproductive medicine to The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine.
